A
short flight from Johannesburg
takes you to the mighty
Victoria Falls, one
of the most spectacular
wonders of the world.
Here, the Zambezi river,
one mile wide, thunders
over a number of cataracts
into a chasm 300 feet
deep. The resultant
billowing spray spirals
high above the Falls
creating an exotic
rain forest in the
midst of the surrounding
savannah. A range of
accommodation is available
on either side of the
river which forms the
boundary between Zambia
and Zimbabwe.
A
few days at Victoria
Falls can be combined
with a safari in Botswana,
or Zimbabwe’s
nearby Hwange National
Park or the Mana Pools
and Matusadona National
Parks further downstream
offer extraordinary
game viewing and remarkable
scenery. Alternatively,
private luxury camps
in the Kafue and South
Luangwa National Parks
in Zambia, an emerging
safari destination,
offer opportunities
to explore these untouched
wilderness areas abounding
in wildlife, some species
unique to these areas. |
